Takakau (maori Bread)

Total Time: 45 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 18-20
  • 5 cups flour
  • 5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 pint milk (570 ml) or 2 cups approx.

Recipe

  • pre-heat oven to 400 f (200 C)
  • sift flour and baking powder in a large bowl.
  • make a well in the center and pour in milk, combine mixture together.
  • slightly flour the bench and knead gently with floured hands and floured surface.
  • roll the dough into a flat round shape.
  • sprinkle some flour in  round pizza tray and spread/knead dough into tray and inside edges.
  • bake for approximately 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • serve hot/cold and
  • add butter/margarine when its hot to the get best taste. 
  • leftovers when cooled can be covered with a damp tea-towel.
  • you may store in an airtight container.
