Sopaipillas

Total Time: 55 mins Preparation Time: 50 mins Cook Time: 5 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon shortening, lard or 1 tablespoon butter
  • warm water
  • oil (for deep frying)
  • honey or sugar, and butter for topping

Recipe

  • 1 mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.
  • 2 cut in the lard/butter/shortening until its small and crumbly like a pie crust.
  • 3 add just enough water to make a dough.
  • 4 let stand 30 minutes.
  • 5 roll out dough thin and cut in small triangles.
  • 6 place in hot oil flipping them over when one side is brown.
  • 7 drain on paper towel.
  • 8 serve warm with honey, butter and sugar.
