Lasagna

Total Time: 12 hrs 30 mins Preparation Time: 12 hrs Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 10
  • 1 cup onion (chopped)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1/2 cup celery (minced)
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons salt
  • 4 (16 ounce) cans tomatoes
  • 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 lb ricotta cheese or 1 lb dry curd cottage cheese
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 1/2 lb mozzarella cheese (thinly sliced)
  • 1 (375 g) package noodles

Recipe

  • 1 cook onion, garlic and celery in oil until soft (but not brown).
  • 2 add beef and brown.
  • 3 stir in remaining ingredients.
  • 4 cover and bring to a boil.
  • 5 reduce heat and simmer 3 hours until thick.
  • 6 chill and refrigerate.
  • 7 skim fat.
  • 8 sauce should be thick enough to cut with a knife.
  • 9 lasagna preperation.
  • 10 layer ingredients starting with meat sauce, then cheese and then noodles.
  • 11 add parmesan as desired.
  • 12 once the dish has been filled, top it off with an even layer of mozzarella cheese.
  • 13 cook for 30 minuets at 350 degrees f.
  • 14 this can be made ahead and refrigerated but allow a little extra baking time if it is cold.
