Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Total Time: 1 hr Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 (1/4 ounce) packages yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 1/2 cups milk, scalding
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup lard (not shortening)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 5 cups flour
  • oil (for frying)
  • glaze
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup warm water

Recipe

  • 1 dissolve yeast and 1 tsp of the sugar in warm water until foamy.
  • 2 melt lard in scalding milk.
  • 3 mix 2 cups flour, sugar and salt in large mixing bowl.
  • 4 add yeast, milk, eggs and vanilla and mix well.
  • 5 add the rest of flour, 1/2 cup at a time until a soft dough forms.
  • 6 form dough into a ball in a bowl, covered, in a warm place for one hour, or until dough doubles in size.
  • 7 roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness on floured surface, cut with doughnut cutter.
  • 8 place doughnuts on lightly floured cookie sheets and let rise.
  • 9 make glaze:
  • 10 mix powdered sugar and water until smooth.
  • 11 heat oil to 350 degrees.
  • 12 when doughnuts have doubled in size, fry in small batches until golden. 1 -2 minutes per side. drain on paper towels.
  • 13 move doughnuts to cookie rack, spoon glaze over doughnuts.
