New England Doughnuts

Ingredients



  • 4 cups flour

  • 3 teaspoons baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 cup milk

  • oil, for frying

  • confectioners' sugar


Recipe



  • 1 sift first five ingredients together.

  • 2 add sugar to melted butter and beat thoroughly.

  • 3 beat eggs and add to sugar mixture.

  • 4 add dry ingredients alternatively with milk to batter.

  • 5 have dough a little stiffer than biscuit dough.

  • 6 preheat oil to 360f in a large saucepan or stockpot.

  • 7 roll dough to 1/4 inch on a floured board.

  • 8 cut with doughnut cutter and fry until golden; turn and fry until golden on the other side.
