Low Calorie Spaghetti

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 lb turkey sausage
  • 1 small onion (finely diced)
  • 1 pinch kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 3/4 cups spaghetti sauce
  • 3 cups whole wheat pasta (uncooked)
  • 2 pinches kosher salt
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Recipe

  • 1 start your noodle water boiling and add 2 pinches of kosher salt.
  • 2 when the water starts to boil, add the noodles and cook according to the manufacturer's direction.
  • 3 brown the turkey, onion, a pinch of kosher salt, sliced mushrooms, 1 teaspoon dried basil, and 1 teaspoon dried parsley on a medium heat.
  • 4 drain any grease that may have cooked out.
  • 5 add the spaghetti sauce and turn to the heat to the lowest setting. stir occasional while the noodle are cooking.
  • 6 when the noodles are done, drain them and toss with olive oil and remaining dried parsley.
  • 7 dish out the cooked noodle and place the sauce on top.
  • 8 optional - top sauce with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese or 1 1/2 tablespoons of low fat small curb cottage cheese.
