Kielbasa And Rice

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 lb kielbasa or 1 lb smoked sausage
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3/4 cup converted rice
  • 1 (10 1/2 ounce) can cream of celery soup
  • 1 tablespoon butter or 1 tablespoon margarine
  • 1 (16 ounce) package frozen green beans
  • 1 (4 ounce) can mushrooms
  • 4 ounces grated swiss cheese

Recipe

  • 1 cut kielbasa into bite size chunks.
  • 2 combine first 5 ingredients in a pan and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • 3 stir in frozen green beans and mushrooms.
  • 4 sprinkle with cheese.
  • 5 cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until rice is cooked.

Carrot Bread I

Ingredients

  • Servings: 1
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded carrots
  • 1 (3.5 ounce) package flaked coconut
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries, chopped
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

  • preheat oven to 350 degrees f (175 degrees c). lightly grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  • in a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. combine eggs, oil and milk; stir into flour mixture until well blended. stir in carrots, coconut, cherries, raisins and walnuts. pour batter into prepared pan.
  • bake in preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into center of the loaf comes out clean. let cool on a wire rack for ten minutes before removing from the pan to cool completely. store in plastic wrap to keep moist.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 3 lbs kielbasa (or other spiced sausage)

Recipe

  • 1 mix all ingredents (except kielbasa) in a sauce pan and heat to incorperate.
  • 2 cut kielbasa in 1/2 inch pieces.
  • 3 put kielbasa in baking dish.
  • 4 cover with sauce and stir until all kielbasa is covered.
  • 5 cover baking dish with lid or foil.
  • 6 bake at 300 degrees for 45 minutes.
  • 7 serve using tooth picks.

Kids Snack Mix

No-fry Spicy Potato Skins


Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons curry powder

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground coriander seed

  • preheat the oven to 400 degrees f (200 degrees c).

  • bake the potatoes for 1 hour. remove the potatoes from the oven, but keep the oven on. slice the potatoes in half lengthwise, and let them cool for 10 mins. scoop out most of the potato flesh, leaving about 1/4 inch of flesh against the potato skin (you can save the potato flesh for another use, like mashed potatoes)

  • cut each potato half crosswise into 3 pieces. place the olive oil in a small cup. dip each potato piece into the olive oil and place it on a baking sheet. repeat this with the remaining potato pieces

  • combine the salt and the spices and sprinkle the mixture over the potatoes. bake the potato skins for 15 minutes or until they are crispy and brown. serve them immediately.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/4 cups brown rice
  • 1/2 cup dried yellow split peas
  • 1/2 cup diced carrot
  • 1/2 onion, finely diced
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 3 1/4 cups vegetable stock
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/3 cup shelled pistachios (optional) or 1/3 cup cashew pieces (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 in a heavy saucepan, heat olive oil over medium-low heat. add rice, split peas, carrot and onion. stir until onion turns translucent, about 4 minutes. add cloves, cinnamon, cumin and curry powder, and cook, stirring, until spices are fragrant (about 1 minute). add stock, bay leaf and nuts, if using.
  • 2 bring to boil, uncovered. stir. reduce heat to simmer, cover and cook 50 minutes or until rice is tender. turn off heat and fluff with a fork. re-cover and allow to steam 5 minutes longer. season with salt and pepper to taste. remove bay leaf before serving.

  • 1 carrot, very fine julienne or grated (optional)

  • 1 1. before you begin preparing other dishes for your meanl, sprinkle the salt and sugar over the shredded cabbage and grated carrot, and toss thoroughly.
  • 2 2. allow veggies to sit at room temperature for 1/2 hour or up to several hours while you do your meal preparations. the salt and sugar will draw juices and flavor out of the cabbage.
  • 3 3. right before serving, drain the juices off the cabbage if you wish (i usually don't, but it makes the salad less drippy) and toss with the vinegar.

Kids Pizza On A Stick

  • 2 bamboo skewers, cut in half (about 6 inches each)
  • 8 slices turkey pepperoni
  • 8 mozzarella cheese, cubes cut into 1-inch squares (or sometimes i use fresh mozzarrella rounds if i have extra)
  • 8 black olives
  • 8 green bell peppers, squares 1-inch
  • 8 pieces pizza crusts, 2 inch squares, previously cooked (usually i will use the pillsbury canned variety or a jiffy mix)
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce

Recipe

  • 1 soak the skewers for about 30 minutes in water.
  • 2 place turkey pepperoni, cheee, olives, crust, and pepper on each skewer, alternating for visual appeal.
  • 3 place on a baking pan in a 350 degree oven for about 5-8 minutes -- just long enough to start melting the cheese and slightly crispen the pepperoni.
  • 4 serve with warmed pizza sauce for dipping.
  • 5 the kids will love this and it is easy!

Kids Jacket Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 3 large sebago potatoes
  • rock salt
  • olive oil
  • 2 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 cup broccoli floret, steamed and chopped
  • 1/3 cup light sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons grated cheese

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 200°c.
  • 2 sprinkle a layer of salt a small baking tray (the salt on the tray makes the potato skins crispy).
  • 3 rub the potatoes with olive oil and place on prepared tray.
  • 4 bake for 1 hour or until skin is crispy and potato is cooked.
  • 5 allow to cool slightly.
  • 6 meanwhile, fry or microwave bacon until crisp.
  • 7 remove the flesh from the potatoes.
  • 8 place in a bowl along with the bacon, broccoli and sour cream.
  • 9 season.
  • 10 return the filling to 2 of the potato shells, piling it high.
  • 11 sprinkle with cheese and return to the oven.
  • 12 cook for a further 5-10 minutes or until cheese has melted.

  • 1/2 cup unsalted peanuts (roasted)
  • 1/2 tablespoon peanut oil
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons raisins (optional)

  • 1 1. place peanuts, oil, and honey in food processor. process 3-5 minutes until smooth and dough forms a ball.
  • 2 2. form into 20 bite-sized balls.

Kids Love 'em South Of The Border S'mores

Ingredients

  • 2 flour tortillas (8-10 inch)
  • 3 large marshmallows, cut in half
  • 2 tablespoons milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon sugar, mixture

Recipe

  • 1 generously coat a medium skillet with vegetable spray and heat it over medium heat.
  • 2 place a tortilla in the skillet, then sprinkle the marshmallow halves and the chocolate chips evenly over it.
  • 3 top with the second tortilla and spray it with vegetable spray as well.
  • 4 cook the tortilla stack for 1-2 minutes or until lightly browned, then carefully flip it and cook on the other side for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  • 5 remove the tortillas to a cutting board, sprinkle the cinnamon sugar over the top, then cut the s-more into quarters.
  • 6 makes 4 s'mores.

Kids Love Tuna Mac

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 1 (225 g) package macaroni and cheese mix, like kraft, prepared according to box directions
  • butter (for mac and cheese)
  • milk (for mac and cheese)
  • 1 (170 g) can tuna in water, drained
  • 1 (400 g) can chopped tomatoes, drained
  • salt and pepper

Recipe

  • 1 begin by boiling water for mac and cheese.
  • 2 while that boils, sauté onions in butter.
  • 3 once onions are cooked to medium/well, add can of tuna (which has been drained).
  • 4 cook for a minute or two, stirring.
  • 5 add canned chopped tomatoes, stir and let simmer on a very low setting for about 5 minutes while you finish mac and cheese. do not overcook as you'll lose the moisture and you don't want that to happen. cover pan if you like.
  • 6 prepare mac and cheese according to box directions.
  • 7 place completed macaroni & cheese along with tuna mixture into a bowl, add salt and pepper (if desired) and combine.
  • 8 serve with veggies and sliced bread and butter.
  • 9 yum! makes a great lunch.

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 2 (1 lb) packages kielbasa
  • 6 large potatoes (any kind)
  • butter or margarine
  • minced garlic
  • 1/2 small onion

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 425°f.
  • 2 using mandolin, slice potatoes and place in 11x13 baking dish or pan.
  • 3 mince onion finely and scatter throughout the potatoes. add as much garlic as you want. i tend to use a heaping tbs of the jarred minced garlic. lay a few pats of butter or margarine on top of the potatoes/onion mixture.
  • 4 next cut kielbasa into bite-size pieces and completely cover the bottom layer. you may have to overlap some of the pieces.
  • 5 cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • 6 after 30 minutes, remove foil and continue baking.

Sweet Potato Bake

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 9 cups water

  • place the onion, rinsed beans, jalapeno, garlic, salt, pepper, and cumin into a slow cooker. pour in the water and stir to combine. cook on high for 8 hours, adding more water as needed. note: if more than 1 cup of water has evaporated during cooking, then the temperature is too high.
  • once the beans have cooked, strain them, and reserve the liquid. mash the beans with a potato masher, adding the reserved water as needed to attain desired consistency.

Kids Veggie Burgers

Ingredients

  • 1 kg potato, peeled
  • 200 g of grated cheddar cheese
  • 800 g frozen mixed vegetables (or fresh if you prefer)
  • 1 spanish onion
  • 250 g golden breadcrumbs
  • salt and pepper

Recipe

  • 1 boil and mash the potatoes,allow to cool whilst you just bring the vegetables to the boil,(the crunch makes them tasty)then drain the veg and sat aside to cool a little.
  • 2 mix the cheese and onion into the potato,and add the veg.
  • 3 at this point,you can ask the children to help by dividing the mixture into 2 or three bowls,and mix all the ingredients together thoroughly with your hands (kids love this)!
  • 4 now-for the mixture into thin burger shapes,empty the breadcrumbs into a bowl and coat each side of each burger (it should make 10 good size burgers- 2 per person) with the breadcrumbs.
  • 5 lay in a non stick baking tray or on a sheet of baking paper in the grill pan.
  • 6 drizzle over a little oil to help brown and crisp if desired (it does help-but only a small amount is required).
  • 7 bake in a preheated oven on gas mark 6 for 20 minutes a side.
  • 8 enjoy!

boston baked beans

Ingredients

  • 2 cups navy beans
  • 1/2 pound bacon
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Recipe

    Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 4 hrs

    Ready Time: 5 hrs

  • soak beans overnight in cold water. simmer the beans in the same water until tender, approximately 1 to 2 hours. drain and reserve the liquid.
  • preheat oven to 325 degrees f (165 degrees c).
  • arrange the beans in a 2 quart bean pot or casserole dish by placing a portion of the beans in the bottom of dish, and layering them with bacon and onion.
  • in a saucepan, combine molasses, salt, pepper, dry mustard, ketchup, worcestershire sauce and brown sugar. bring the mixture to a boil and pour over beans. pour in just enough of the reserved bean water to cover the beans. cover the dish with a lid or aluminum foil.
  • bake for 3 to 4 hours in the preheated oven, until beans are tender. remove the lid about halfway through cooking, and add more liquid if necessary to prevent the beans from getting too dry.

  • 3 onions, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 3 pasilla chiles, roasted, skins scrapped off, seeded, chopped
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 3 lbs kielbasa, quartered lengthwise, thickly sliced
  • 1 lb button mushroom, quartered
  • 3 (10 3/4 ounce) cans cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
  • 1 cup milk (i use 2%)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

  • 1 saute (stir fry)onions, celery, and chilies until onions are translucent.
  • 2 remove from frying pan, set aside to drain on paper towels.
  • 3 brown kielbasa.
  • 4 mix all ingredients in a crock pot set on low.

  • 1 lb turkey kielbasa, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1 (5 ounce) package sour cream and chives potato mix
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1 (15 ounce) can whole kernel corn
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Recipe

  • 1 cook kielbasa in a large skillet in oil until lightly browned; drain.
  • 2 add potato mix with season packet and water to the sausage.
  • 3 cover and cook for 18-20 minutes or until the potatoes are almost tender.
  • 4 add corn.
  • 5 cook for 10-12 more minutes or until the potatoes are done and the corn is heated through.

  • 1 in a blender add the ingredients but the last cup of ice and blend for 30 seconds.

  • 1 teaspoon italian seasoning

  • 1 1st - i love the fat free tubes of 100% organic polenta at fresh 'n easy. i assume they are sold elsewhere, but these have become my go-to cheap & healthy favorite.
  • 2 2nd - remove polenta from packaging and place into a bowl. massage in the pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, olives, onions, peppers, and parsley. season with some salt and pepper. if you want to make this with other ingredients - go for it! i would love to try ham & cheddar, sausage & sage & greuyere, green chilis & chorizo & jack -- the list goes on & on - use your imagination. i've done pizza ingredients to make my kiddo happy!
  • 3 flatten the mixture in a pie pan, casserole dish, or a long lasagna pan. basically you wan to flatten it out in as big of a rectangle possible that is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick. refrigerate for a few hours.
  • 4 i like to make this first thing in the morning then cut, coat, & cook after school. its ok to do whatever works for your schedule, but its easier to cut and coat and shape the polenta when cold.
  • 5 3rd - when ready to cut -- cut into sticks -- about 1 inch wide x 4-5 inches long and 1/2 to 3/4 inches thick. the size is 100% your call. i've even done these before with cookie cutters -- in various shapes. just make sure they aren't too big to crisp up correctly when you cook.
  • 6 coat your sticks (or other shapes) with a mixture of the panko crumbs and parmesean cheese mixed together. get a nice coating stuck to all sides of the polenta.
  • 7 fry on a grill pan coated with non-stick spray until crisp on both sides. serve with warm marinara sauce.

Kielbasa And Cabbage

  • 1 lb kielbasa, cut in chunks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 head cabbage, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

Recipe

  • 1 cook kielbasa in butter until browned.
  • 2 add remaining ingredients; stir well; cover and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • 3 cabbage should be crisp-tender.

Kidney Bean Salsa

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 (420 g) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped fine
  • 1/2 yellow capsicum, chopped fine
  • 1/2 red capsicum, chopped fine
  • 1 avocado, chopped into chunks
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh cilantro leaves
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice

Recipe

  • 1 combine all ingredients together and serve with either warm flour tortillas or corn chips.

Kids' Favorite Cheese Sauce

Total Time: 20 mins Preparation Time: 5 mins Cook Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 lb cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 -2 tablespoon sugar

Recipe

  • 1 dice the cheddar cheese (medium or mild is best) into 1/2 inch cubes.
  • 2 melt in double boiler on medium heat or in microwave at 30 second intervals, stirring frequently to help it melt.
  • 3 once the cheese is about half melted, stir in the mayonnaise a tablespoon or two at a time. depending on the desired consistency, you may wish to adjust the amount of mayonnaise.
  • 4 when the cheese is thoroughly melted, slowly add the milk, stirring constantly. the sauce should have a grainy texture once it has enough milk.
  • 5 add salt and sugar to taste. sharper cheeses generally need more sugar and less salt. (note: i tried using low fat mayonnaise the other day, and it turned out much sweeter than i wanted. it still tasted great on the broccoli, but apparently low-fat mayo has sugar in it, so check your ingredients!).
  • 6 pour over cooked broccoli or fried/poached eggs and serve. to reheat, place in microwave for 30 second intervals, stirring each time.

Kids' Fruit Salad

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces , drained (i also rinsed mine to get rid of the syrupy taste)
  • 2 medium bananas, sliced
  • 1 cup miniature marshmallow
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Recipe

  • 1 in large bowl, combine all ingredients and stir gently to combine.
  • 2 refrigerate until serving time.
  • 3 store in refrigerator.

Kielbasa & Veggies (grilled)

Total Time: 31 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 1 min

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 2 kielbasa
  • 8 -10 red potatoes
  • 2 onions
  • 1 (8 ounce) package fresh mushrooms (whole)
  • 2 green peppers
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (or spray)
  • 15 -20 cherry tomatoes (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 spray oil on bottom of 8x 10 foil pan.
  • 2 cut potatoes no more than 1/4 inch thick slices and place them in the foil pan.
  • 3 cover with tin foil.
  • 4 place on top rack of grill on low heat for 30 minutes.
  • 5 in the meantime, slice peppers in strips.
  • 6 leave mushrooms whole.
  • 7 slices onions to desired thickness.
  • 8 remove potatoes after 30 minutes.
  • 9 place all vegetables over the potatoes.
  • 10 place kielbasa over the veggies and refoil.
  • 11 place on grill over low heat for 1 hour.
  • 12 note: feel free to add other veggies or increase/decrease what i have listed according to your taste. the same applies to seasoning. i use salt & pepper. sometimes i add oregano or rosemary.

Kielbasa & Sauerkraut

  • 1 bag sauerkraut (approx. 2 cups drained)
  • 1 kielbasa, sliced thick (3/4" slices)

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 4 medium red potatoes, cut in quarters

Kielbasa And Kale Soup

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped kale or 1 (10 ounce) package collard greens (i like to use spinach) or 1 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach (i like to use spinach)
  • 8 ounces kielbasa or 8 ounces other fully cooked smoked sausage
  • 1 (19 ounce) can cannellini (white kidney beans) or 1 (19 ounce) can other canned white beans
  • 2/3 cup elbow macaroni

Recipe

  • 1 put broth and frozen kale (or spinach) into a heavy 4 quart pot over high heat.
  • 2 slice sausage into 1/4 inch thick rounds. add to pot. when mixture boils, reduce heat, cover and simmer.
  • 3 meanwhile, rinse and drain beans; add to pot with macaroni.
  • 4 simmer 8 minutes or until macaroni is tender.

Kids Twist On Apple Sauce And Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 (3 ounce) container applesauce, sugar free
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 small apple, cut into wedges
  • 3 tablespoons granola cereal
  • 1 tablespoon mascarpone cheese
  • 2 teaspoons marshmallow cream

Recipe

  • 1 coat the apples with the cinnamon and place in microwave safe bowl. microwave on high heat for about 2-3 minutes, or until softened like a fried or baked apple.
  • 2 mix together the mascarpone cheese and marshmallow fluff.
  • 3 in a "kid" bowl, mix the apple with the apple sauce. top with the cereal and sweet mascarpone/marshmallow mixture.
  • 4 you can substitute the mascarpone/marshmallow mixture with some cool whip, cream cheese, ice cream, yogurt, or even just a drizzle of milk. i like the sweet topping as a treat, since the dish really is pretty healthy.
  • 5 you can serve this to your kids as a desert or even just a snack after school to quench a sweet tooth.

Kids Love S'mores Pops!!

  • 1 (16 ounce) bag large marshmallows
  • 1 (16 ounce) bag chocolate chips (or whatever chocolate you like to melt)
  • 1 (16 ounce) package graham crackers

Recipe

  • 1 crush grahm crackers in a big zip lock bag until they are like bread crumbs.
  • 2 place crumbs in a bowl.
  • 3 melt chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave (my mom did this part) stirring often until smooth.
  • 4 stick a toothpick in a marshmallow and dip in chocolate all the way then in grahm cracker crumbs half way.
  • 5 set on wax paper to dry.
  • 6 eat!

Kidney Bean Chili, Indian Style (rajma In Masala)

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups uncooked kidney beans
  • 1 medium onion, peeled,quartered and
  • 2 medium onions, peeled,finely chopped
  • 1/2 inch ginger, peeled,chopped
  • 1 tablespoon coriander seed
  • 1 green chili pepper
  • 4 red chili peppers
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seed
  • 1/4 inch turmeric or 1/8 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 10 black peppercorns or 10 black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cinnamon sticks or 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons ghee or 2 tablespoons clarified butter
  • 1 teaspoon dried mango powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 cups water

Recipe

  • 1 wash the kidney beans well and soak in water overnight.
  • 2 next morning, steam them until tender; or cook in a large pot of water for about an hour or until tender.
  • 3 remove 1/2 cup of cooked beans, crush coarsely and keep aside.
  • 4 grind 1 onion, ginger, coriander seeds, chili peppers, cumin, turmeric, peppercorns, and cinnamon to a very fine paste.
  • 5 heat ghee in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
  • 6 add the chopped onions and saute until golden brown.
  • 7 add the ground paste and saute, sprinkling water occasionally, until the ghee starts separating from the paste.
  • 8 add the cooked beans (not the crushed beans), stir for a while and add salt and dried mango powder.
  • 9 pour 3 cups of water and add the crushed beans.
  • 10 mix well and bring to a boil, twice.
  • 11 serve hot over steamed rice, chappatis, or whole-wheat tortillas.

Kidney Beans New Orleans

  • 3/4 lb dried kidney beans
  • 4 smoked ham hocks
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 garlic cloves, peeled and pureed
  • 2 celery ribs, diced large
  • 2 onions, diced
  • 1 lb italian sausage, cut on the bias in 1 ' pieces
  • 1 green pepper, cubed
  • tabasco sauce
  • salt

Recipe

  • 1 place beans in large bowl and cover completely with water, let stand overnight.
  • 2 place smoked ham hocks in large saucepan and cover with water, bring to a boil, add seasonings and garlic. partly cover and cook for 1 1/2 hours over low heat. the ham hocks should be well cooked, remove from saucepan and set aside, leave water in pan.
  • 3 drain beans and add to hot water in saucepan, add celery and onion. add more water if liquid does not cover beans completely. mix and partly cover, cook for 1 hour over med heat, stirring occasionally.
  • 4 add sausages, tabasco sauce, and green pepper to saucepan, mix, partly cover and continue cooking for 15 minutes.
  • 5 return ham hocks to saucepan with beans. at this point most of the water should be evaporated.
  • 6 partly cover and cook 15 minutes.
  • 7 before serving remove bay leaves.
  • 8 serve over rice.

  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 1/3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Recipe

  • 1 preheat the oven to 325 degrees fahrenheit (165 degrees celsius).
  • 2 put the yeast in a small bowl with the water and honey. stir a little, then let the mixture sit for 5 minutes.
  • 3 mix the flour and salt together in a medium-size bowl.
  • 4 after the 5 minutes is up, check on the yeast mixture. it should be bigger than before and a little bubbly. add this mixture to the flour and salt mixture.
  • 5 stir everything together. use a spoon to start. finish with your hands. the dough is ready when it's still a little crumbly and flaky.
  • 6 put the dough on the cutting board and knead it like you are playing with clay. knead it into one big ball.
  • 7 break off a piece of dough that's about the size of a big gumball or superball. use your hands to roll it into a skinny snake.
  • 8 twist the snake into a medium-size pretzel shape, and put it on the cookie sheet. do this with all the dough, making 12 pretzels.
  • 9 bake your pretzels for 10 minutes. let them cool, add the toppings, and take a bite! i hope you like them! :d.

Kids' Favourite Salmon Pasta With Peas

  • 5 cups farfalle pasta
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 2/3 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1/2 cup light cream cheese, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 7 1/2 ounces salmon, drained and broken into chunks

Recipe

  • 1 in a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the pasta until tender but firm, 8 to 10 minutes.
  • 2 reserving 1/2 cup of the cooking liquid, drain and return the pasta to the pot.
  • 3 meanwhile, in a saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat.
  • 4 cook the onion and garlic until softened, about 2 minutes.
  • 5 add the milk and heat until steaming.
  • 6 whisk the corn starch with 2 tablespoons water.
  • 7 stir into the milk mixture and cook, stirring, until thickened, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • 8 add the peas, cheese, parsley, lemon juice, mustard, dill weed, salt and pepper.
  • 9 stir until the cheese is melted.
  • 10 add to the pasta and toss to coat, adding the reserved cooking liquid if desired.
  • 11 gently stir in the salmon.

  • 1 pound dried figs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

    Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 50 mins Ready Time: 1 hr 5 mins

  • preheat oven to 350 degrees f (175 degrees c). grease and flour a 10 inch tube pan. place the stewed figs into a saucepan, cover with water, and simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes. drain and cool, reserving 1/2 cup of the liquid.
  • cut the figs into 1/4 inch cubes; set aside. in a medium bowl, combine the reserved fig liquid and buttermilk; set aside. sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves; set aside.
  • in a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. beat in the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk mixture. stir in the chopped figs and walnuts. pour into prepared 10 inch tube pan.
  • bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. cool in pan 15 minutes, then turn out a wire rack and cool completely.
