Khasta Kachoris' For Holi

Total Time: 1 hr 5 mins Preparation Time: 30 mins Cook Time: 35 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1 teaspoon jeera powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon hing (asafoetida)
  • 1 cup white urad dal (soaked in water and ground in the mixer/blender)
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons saunf, powdered
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 2 teaspoons coriander powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon amchur powder (mango powder)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup ghee
  • water, to, knead

Recipe

  • 1 put 1/4 cup oil in a pan.
  • 2 add the filling ingredients.
  • 3 mix well.
  • 4 cook for a few minutes till the oil leaves the mixture and a wonderful aroma emerges.
  • 5 remove from heat.
  • 6 keep aside.
  • 7 now start making the kachooris.
  • 8 for this, take all the kachori ingredients and mix well in a bowl until a dough is formed.
  • 9 (mix using your hands like for rotis).
  • 10 make small balls out of the mixture.
  • 11 using a rolling pin, roll them out till about palm size (not very big).
  • 12 put a little of the filling in each of the balls and roll the sides so as to seal the kachoori.
  • 13 deep fry in hot oil till golden brown.
  • 14 drain on kitchen paper and serve immediately!
  • 15 happy holi to everyone!
