Killian's Onion Petals

Total Time: 35 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 large red onion
  • 1/4 cup killians red
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (to taste)
  • salt and pepper
  • sunflower oil (for frying)

Recipe

  • 1 cut off ends of onion and cut into quarters.
  • 2 julienne the quartered onions and separate into"petals".
  • 3 put remaining ingredients in blender and process until smooth, scraping down sides a couple of times.
  • 4 put batter into a bowl, add the onion petals and stir to coat.
  • 5 remove batter coated petals to a cookie sheet and put in fridge to rest for about 1/2 hour.
  • 6 deep fry petals in fairly hot sunflower oil (about 375º) until golden, about 2 minutes per batch.
  • 7 serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
